Acupuncture is an ancient method of healthcare, proven helpful in the modern world for the treatment and management of hundreds of conditions, and beneficial to people of all ages. Treatment through acupuncture includes the insertion of tiny needles into locations called acupuncture points, found along the meridians, or energetic pathways. These points can be found anywhere on the surface of the body; they are places where the deeper energies of the body can be accessed and through which the energy may be conducted and harmonized.
Treatment may also include the use of cupping, gua sha, Chinese herbal formulas, essential oils, acupressure, and heat lamps. It may include lifestyle recommendations as well as dietary suggestions. The Chinese medical paradigm sees each individual holistically - that is, as an intricate and unique design of body, mind, and spirit. Symptoms and conditions often include or touch on all elements of a person’s being. Understanding and treating the whole person is essential to the efficacy of treatment.

Wednesday--Wellness And Beauty:
Rejuvenate with Julie Festa, L.Ac
April 8, 2009 Written by Jaclyn Mullen
The past few weeks I have found myself as busy as the spring bees. With that comes a never ending “to do” list and a sense of accomplishment in crossing items off it, but there is also a lot of adrenaline and rushing around town that follows suit too. Amidst all the hustle and bustle, I have started to forget something very important to me: being good to my body. When the blackberry buzzes and emails come in, I have to dedicate more and more time to work and less time to exercising, meditating, even sleeping. At the suggestion of one of my close friends, I was told that Acupuncture could give me a mental vacation while also restoring my body to a state of balance. So I did what any stressed out, hard working young professional would do, I gave it a shot. And I must say, the results were amazing.
Fortunately the very friend that suggested I try out acupuncture also had an acupuncturist in mind. Enter Julie Festa, L.Ac, pleasant, professional, an angel in disguise. I came into her office on a Tuesday morning at 8 a.m., having already done an hour and a half of work. We went over my medical history, my current health concerns and areas where my body seemed to be holding stress. In a matter of time, I was face down getting cupped, plum blossomed and then delicately poked with acupuncture needles. Before I knew it, I was out like a light. The state your body goes into from acupuncture isn’t a sleeping state where you are totally turned off-it’s even better because you are relaxed yet still somewhat present. I experienced an overwhelming sense of peace and while my body may have been “off” my mind was clear, calm and conscious. After my session, I was dying to find out more about Julie and how she became an acupuncturist. Fortunately, she had a great website (www.juliefesta.com) which allowed me to learn more about her practice.
I cannot wait to get back to Julie for my next session. This experience reminded me that while success and accomplishment are wonderful, they cannot do you any good if you are too stressed out or tired to enjoy them. Save those PTO day’s you’ve acquired and take a mental vacation, allow Julie Festa, L.Ac to guide you to your peaceful destination. Rejuvenate with Julie and you’ll truly see immediate results.
